MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER
Dr. Spencer Reid in "Criminal Minds"
Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays the socially awkward genius Dr. Spencer Reid on "Criminal Minds," has also directed episodes for the show's fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth seasons. In his spare time on set, he wrote, directed and starred in a series of mockumentaries entitled "Matthew Gray Gubler: The Unauthorized Documentaries" and "The Authorized Documentary," which can be seen on YouTube.
Gubler voiced the role of Simon in the hit remake of "Alvin and The Chipmunks," which won several Kids' Choice Awards and grossed over $200 million. He also voiced Jimmy Olsen in "All-Star Superman," which featured voices of Ed Asner, Christina Hendricks and James Denton, and voiced Winsor in "Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur." He starred opposite Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in "500 Days of Summer," which was nominated for a 2009 Golden Globe for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy. Most recently he played Mr. Claybaugh in the horror film "Excision." Other credits include Drake Doremus' video diary, "The Beauty Inside," playing the lead, Alex; "Magic Valley," which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2011; "How to Be a Serial Killer"; "R.V."; Wes Anderson's "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"; "Pornstar" and "The Great Buck Howard." In addition Gubler shared one of his great ghost encounters on Biography Channel's series, "Celebrity Ghost Stories."
Gubler, a Las Vegas native, attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he majored in film. Since graduating he has directed the short films "The Cactus That Looked Just Like a Man," "Claude: A Symphony of Horror," "Life Aquatic: Intern Journal" and "Tippi's Picnic." He also directed, edited and co-produced The Killers' "Don't Shoot Me Santa" music video. In addition to acting and directing, Gubler is an accomplished water color painter, and has recently started his own music label, entitled Corn Stalk Recordings.
